New Delhi, Nov 11: Wrapping up its investigations in the Rs 93 crore Home Trade scam, the CBI has filed chargesheet against former commissioner of Seaman's Provident Fund (SPF) Anup Kumar Gond, owner of Home Trade Corporation (HTC) Sanjay Aggarwal, and noted broker Ketan Sheth.
The chargesheet, filed last evening in the designated
court at Mumbai, named 14 people as being involved in the scam
that rocked the country last year following misuse of
provident funds of seamen, a CBI spokesman said here.
All the 14 have been charged under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act for entering into a criminal conspiracy involving misappropriation, forgery and cheating for their personal gain.
The chargehseet alleged that Gond, while acting as commissioner of SPF, in connivance with his senior assistant Chandulal Thadani, entered into a criminal conspiracy with Aggarwal and Sheth and handed over physical securities worth Rs 32 crore to the owner of the home trade for the sale and purchase of other securities.
The Home Trade group, which had used cricket stars like Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood stars like Shahrukh Khan to promote its business, issued simple contract notes against the Rs 32 crore but never delivered the securities.
