New Delhi, Jan 07: Taking a serious view of the Uttar Pradesh police's failure to execute arrest warrant against MLA Madan Bhaiya in a murder case registered here, the Delhi High Court today summoned its police chief to explain as to why several court orders in this regard were not complied with. "We are constrained to direct the DGP of Uttar Pradesh to remain present on January 21 and explain to the court why the non-bailable warrant has not been executed and directions in this regard issued on a number of occasions not complied with," a bench, comprising Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice S K Agrawal, said in an order.
Coming down heavily on the state's police for failing to cooperate with the Delhi Police in getting the warrant executed despite specific directions to the DGP in at least four orders passed last year, the court asked UP's standing counsel A K Srivasta whether "the state government was so weak and meek that it could not execute the warrant against the MLA."
The direction was issued on a writ petition by the uncle of a youth who according to the Delhi Police FIR was allegedly killed in Ghaziabad district after abduction from Gokulpuri area of east Delhi on September 20, 2000.
The court on December nine had sought a detailed report from the UP and Delhi Police about the steps taken by them to implement its various directions regarding execution of the warrant issued by the trial court here.
An FIR registered with the Gokulpuri police station here, had named Bhaiya, an independent MLA, as the prime accused in the alleged abduction and murder of Narender Singh. Bureau Report
