New Delhi, Aug 29: The Delhi High Court on Friday deferred to September 5 hearing on a petition filed by Cable Networks Association (CNA) seeking implementation of CAS in the capital from September 1 as per July 10 Government notification. CNA filed the petition following the government decision to implement CAS in the capital after the assembly elections.

However, a Bench comprising Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice A K Sikri deferred the matter stating that it would be proper to hear the petition after the government comes out with the notification extending the date of implementation of the Conditional Access System (CAS).

CNA counsel Jayant Bhushan and Inderbir Singh Alagh said till now the government has not come up with the notification for extending the date for implementation of CAS, but announced the decision that CAS would be implemented in the capital only after the assembly elections are completed.
They said the government has decided to implement CAS in other metros as per the July 10 notification.

Besides seeking implementation of July 10 notification of the Government for implementation of CAS in the capital from Sept 1, CNA has also sought quashing of May 5 notification which fixed the charge for free to air channels at Rs 72 per subscriber per month. Bureau Report
