San Remo, Oct 06: Another Frenchman, Gilles Panizzi driving a Peugoet, burst through to take second place winning both the final legs after opting for intermediate tyres. Panizzi won the final stage with an advantage of one minute 16.7 seconds to move him above Markko Martin of Estonia who had won all four stages on Saturday (October 4) in his Ford. But Martin's hopes suffered a decisive blow on Saturday when he was given a 30 second penalty for a late start on the first leg after his Citroen suffered electrical problems. Panizzi's fellow Peugeot driver, Finn Marcus Gronholm, who had been set for a comfortable podium place, crashed out after losing a wheel early in the final stage, leaving him pointless after an impressive three days of driving.
