Lucknow, Mar 24: A review petition was filed today challenging the Allahabad High Court's order for excavation at the acquired land in Ayodhya to ascertain whether a temple existed there.
The petition by M A Hashmi, who is one of the main
plaintiffs in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suits, in
the Lucknow bench of the court contended that the march five
order of the court was violative of the apex court's order to
maintain status quo at the disputed site.
He pleaded that the excavation work was likely to hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community as the disputed site was a religious place where people used to offer 'Namaz'.
Further, there was a graveyard at the site and digging work could not be taken up there, Hashmi contended.
The court, after hearing the petitioner, reserved its order on the admissibility of the petition till tomorrow. Bureau Report
