Shillong, Oct 08: Altogether 12 underground activists of different outlawed organisations, including NSCN, surrendered with their arms before the Assam Rifles in
Nagaland, AR sources said here today.
Six ultras from NSCN (IM), one from NSCN (K), four from FGN and one from NDFB laid down their assorted weapons, ammunitions and communication equipment before the AR Director General Lt Gen H S Kanwar in Nagaland's Mokokchung yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGAR lauded the decision of the underground activists to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream.
He said the youths realised the 'futility' of their violent mission and hoped that they would be able to motivate others. Lt Gen Kanwar assured them that all the underground cadres who wished to surrender would be welcomed with open arms and provided with all assistance by the administration and rehabilitated in to Assam Rifles, the sources said.
