New Delhi, Nov 28: In an apparent sign of softness, Samajwadi Party today declined to buy the view that Congress sided with BJP by abstaining from voting in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council by-poll recently.
The abstention by 23-member Congress had helped the joint candidate of BSP-BJP coalition in the state to win in the election.
But SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters here that "by abstaining (from voting), they (Congress) have made it clear that they have not sided with BJP." Yadav's remarks followed Congress taking up with UP governor Vishnu Kant Shastri as well as during the discussion in Parliament today on political developments in the state the demand for convening a special session of the state assembly for a trial of strength for Mayawati ministry.
The SP supremo's remarks stood in sharp contrast to party general secretary Amar Singh's outburst against Congress a day after the result of UP Legislative Council poll.
