Adelaide, Dec 14: Rahul Dravid, tantalisingly close to setting a new standard of Indian test batsmanship in the second cricket test here, today said his knock would be meaningless unless India won the match to take a 1-0 lead against Australia. Dravid was not prepared to rate his 199-run unbeaten knock among his best saying he would have to wait for the result to be on his team's side before that.
"My centuries mean much if it helps the team achieve right results. That is why perhaps I rate the hundreds in Kolkata (vs Australia) and Headingley (against England) as special because we ended up with the right results.
"This too will be a special hundred if we get the result right."
The Indian vice-captain, just seven runs short of overtaking Ravi Shastri's highest ever score of 206 by an Indian in Australia, stitched a 303-run partnership with VVS Laxman today to revive memories of the Kolkata test when a 376-run stand between the two had helped India beat Australia by 171 runs.
But Dravid said the two of them did not discuss that stand today.
"We didn't discuss it. We have batted a lot together over the years. We've done it before but the fact is it was four years ago, doesn't mean anything," said Dravid.
"It was a familiar moment in certain ways but it didn't end the way as in Kolkata (where they had batted for entire day). It does bring back some pleasant memories."
