Port Blair, Mar 11: Andaman and Nicobar Marine Police was today equipped with six new speed boats specially designed for anti-poaching operation in dense creeks of the island. "With the introduction of the speed boats named after the five elements Akash, Agni, Vayu, Jal, Prithvi and Vajra we will leave no stone unturned in driving away the poachers," superintendent of police Andaman district Manish Kumar Agrawal told reporters. The boats, each with a speed of 18 knots and 80 HP Yamaha engines, will be supported by a mother vessel stranded at sea during the entire process of anti-poaching operation, he said.
The boats 7.5 meters in length and a low draft are specially designed for anti-poaching operation in dense creeks of the islands as creeks in Andamans serve as a good hideout for the foreign poachers who frequently enter the islands to steal the forest and marine wealth. Bureau Report
