Sydney, Nov 27: Australian Test captain Steve Waugh has been named the New South Wales Australian of the year for his contribution to sports, humanitarian causes and charity.
The 38-year-old yesterday announced his decision to retire after the four-match home Test series against India.
The award means Waugh is in the running for the national Australian of the year honour.
