Raipur, Oct 08: Congress workers clashed with members of BJP, NCP and police during Chhattisgarh bandh sponsored by Youth Congress and NSUI today to protest the CBI chargesheet against Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, leaving several people injured. Congress workers at several places raised slogans supporting Jogi and asked shopkeepers to down their shutter, while BJP workers distributed sweets and NCP workers burst crackers asking people to open their shops.
PCC spokesman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi claimed the bandh was "total and peaceful" whereas senior BJP leader and former minister Brij Mohan Agrawal called it a "flop". Several members of ruling Congress and NCP were injured when police lathicharged to disperse clashing NCP-Congress workers here in the main post office premises.
Youth Congress activists burnt the effigy of CBI for chargesheeting their "popular Chief Minister on political ground". However, there was usual vehicular traffic on the street and buses were seen plying amidst heavy police deployment in sensitive places of the city.
Meanwhile, Raipur police last night had to use force to disperse NSUI workers who had gheraoed a police station protesting the lathicharge on youth and NSUI workers when they tried to burn the effigy of CBI last night.
