Gopeshwar, May 20: More than 70,000 pilgrims have visited Badrinath-shrine till now with an average of 6,000 visiting per day this season, chief executive officer of the Badrinath-Kedarnath committee, J S Bisht said here. He said the pilgrimage is going on peacefully without any hindrance since the temple reopened early this month.
Carvan of taxi, jeeps, motors and other vehicles are being seen on roads every day, Bisht said.
He, however, said that increasing pollution of the holy Himalayas in the Garhwal hills bordering Tibet and China, is turning away lacs of pilgrims and tourists who come here every summer.
Bisht said an ambitious plan is needed to bring the Himalayan hill region back on the map of pilgrimage and tourism.
