Tokyo, June 22: England football captain David Beckham wound up his five-day visit to Japan today after underscoring his huge popularity here ahead of his transfer to Real Madrid.
A Thai Airways jet carrying Beckham and his popstar wife Victoria left Tokyo's Narita airport at 11:21 am (0221 GMT) for Bangkok as he continues his Asian promotional tour, an airport official said.
Carrying cameras, bouquets, his pictures and books, some 500 fans gathered at the airport some 50 kilometers east of the capital to say goodbye to the England footballing star.
A smiling Beckham waved to the screaming fans as his wife filmed the crowd with a hand-sized video camera.
Asked for his thoughts on Japan, he briefly said, "Just beautiful. Thank you", as he headed for the departure gate.

Beckham's tour of Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam has been given extra attention after his transfer from Manchester United to Spanish club Real Madrid in a deal worth up to 35 million euros (41.25 million dollars) was agreed this week.
