The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will meet shortly to discuss the responses by the Gujarat government and the Centre to its recommendations and preliminary remarks. The commission will considers the Gujarat issue at the earliest, highly placed sources in the commission said adding that the commission will take appropriate decision soon. The commission, which is to prepare a comprehensive report on the communal riots in Gujarat, had asked for the responses, both from the state government and the Centre to enable further consideration of this matter by the commission without any aviodable delay. While the Gujarat government, in its report submitted last week, had rejected the major recommendations of the NHRC including a CBI inquiry of critical cases of violence, the Centre had sought time till April 30 to respond to the commission's preliminary remarks and recommendations. In its interim report, the Centre had said that it needs to gather information from various ministries which will take some time.
