Tumkur (Karnataka), Feb 29: Immediately after the announcement of poll schedule, Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani on Sunday gave up the Indian Air Force's helicopter and preferred a private chopper to fly back to Bangalore in view of the model code of conduct coming into force.
The moment he came to know that the elections dates have been announced and the commission's declaration that the model code of conduct came into force immediately, Advani, who was in Tumkur for an election meeting, chose to fly back to Bangalore by a private chopper.

The journalists who accompanied him from the capital travelled by road from Tumkur to Bangalore, a distance of about 130 kilometres.
The Deputy Prime Minister was originally scheduled to travel to Mangalore from Tumkur and then back to Bangalore. Advani is now expected to fly back to Delhi by a private aircraft.

The model code of conduct bars use of Air Force jets and helicopters for election campaign except in the case of Prime Minister. Bureau Report
