Mumbai, Mar 05: Holding of seperate polls for Lok Sabha and the state assembly will entail an estimated additional burden of Rs 76 crore to the exchequer, Chief Electoral Officer for Maharashtra R K Bhargava has said. Addressing a press conference, Bhargva said that holding of Lok Sabha and assembly polls in the state separately will cost an estimated Rs 90 crore each this time. In comparison, the 1999 exercise, during which Lok Sabha and assembly polls were held simultaneously, had incurred a total expenditure of Rs 104 crore, the CEO pointed out. Talking about the security aspect during the Lok Sabha polls this time, he said a total 50 companies of Central Paramilitary Forces will be deployed especially for the sensitive and naxal-affected polling booths in the state. A review will be carried out to determine the number of such hyper-sensitive polling booths in the state and extra forces will be demanded, if needed, he added. A total of 5,000 ballot papers will be printed in each constituency, particularly for the EC staff, police personnel and for those in services, who will be round the clock duty for the elections, Bhargava said.
