Aligarh, Dec 07: Tension prevailed in the city here today after authorities found a large chunk of flesh in a place of worship, the second such incident in three days in Kanwari Ganj locality, district magistrate S M Bobde said.
As news of the incident spread, a large crowd gathered at the shrine but the situation was diffused due to prompt action on the part of the city administration, Bobde said.
Both the incidents, the official said, had taken place in the same area, which witnessed mob violence last month over a dispute on right of passage through a Muslim graveyard.
The DM did not rule out the possibility of the hand of 'sartorias' or gamblers in the incident and said about half a dozen gamblers had been arrested in the last 24 hours for allegedly trying to "engineer" communal riots in the city on the eve of the 11th anniversary of Babri demolition.
He said past records of the communally sensitive town showed that gamblers had played a dubious role in engineering riots and indulged in betting on predictions of outbreak of communal violence on specific occasions. Bureau Report
