New Delhi, Apr 16: The Janata Dal (United), which is contesting Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu as a constitutent of the people's alliance, today announced candidates for five seats. While sitting MLA M Appavu has been fielded from Tirunelveli, Prof Muthu Gunashekaran will contest from Chennai North and Jesu Paulraj would contest on the JD(U) ticket from Tiruchirapalli. The party has decided to field two women, Pushpa Sachan and Sphia from Dindigul and Nilgiris respectively. The president of the state unit of JD (U), Rajasekaran has been named chairman of the campaign committee, and T K Murthy would be incharge of co-ordination on behalf of JD(U), a party release said here. The people's alliance, which is contesting on JD(U)'s poll symbol of arrow, comprises Vidhuthalai Chirathegal, Puthiya Tamizhagam, Makkal Tamil Desam and the INL. The front has also planned a massive rally in Chennai in the last week of April to be addressed by party president George Fernandes and former Karnataka Cm S R Bommai besides Union Ministers Sharad Yadav, Nitish Kumar and Digvijay Singh.
