Kolhapur, July 26: Reiterating the Congress-led DF government's resolve to create an "egalitarian society," chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde today said a vibrant Maharashtra could be created by treading on the path of social justice shown by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. Shinde was addressing a public gathering to celebrate 129th birth centenary of Chhatrapati Shahu, as the day is commemorated as social justice day by the state government.

Deputy chief minister Chhaggan Bhujbal and ministers of cabinet, chief secretary social justice Suresh Kumar, MLA's and MP's in the district were among others present at Shri Shahu cultural Centre here.
Shinde reminded people about the role played by Mahatma Gandhi and Nobel laureate Amartya Sen for social justice.

"The verdict given by Chhatrapati Shahu a century ago for 50 per cent reservations for the downtrodden in his princely state was revolutionary," he added.
