Ardawata, Rajasthan, Mar 17: Virtually launching her party's election campaign in Rajasthan, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday charged the BJP-led NDA government with failing to check the forces dividing the society on communal lines and for ignoring the interests of farmers. "Ever since the BJP-led NDA government came to power, agriculture production has gone down. Farmers are facing more difficulties and there were occasional cases of suicides. Despite this, the budget put a heavy burden on them. This shows that the BJP government has no concern for farmers," she said.

Gandhi was addressing a rally in the traditional bastion of her party in the Shekhawati region comprising Jhunjhunu, Sikar and Churu districts after unveiling a statue of her late husband and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the Indira Gandhi Degree College compound here.
The Congress President said the country's unity will be in danger if the divisive forces succeeded in disrupting communal harmony.

"The NDA government has not only failed to control divisive forces but also was adopting polices which were making lives of poor people and farmers difficult," she said.

She also accused the NDA government of making false promises to provide one crore jobs and said it was the primary responsibility of the political parties to implement their promises to the people. Reiterating Congress' commitment to protect the interests of farmers, she said the party Chief Ministers have been directed to see that their interests were protected at any cost. Bureau Report
