Chandigarh, Oct 06: Punjab Police has registered a case of fraud and cheating against noted Punjabi singer, Daler Mehndi and four other persons including his brother who has been arrested, for allegedly promising to take youth abroad in their musical troupe, a senior police officer said today. The case has been registered at Patiala on a complaint from one Bakshish Singh, a resident of Belwara in the district, senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patiala, Paramraj Singh Umranangal told.
The complainant alleged that he had paid Rs 13 lakh out of the demand of Rs 15 lakh for sending him abroad, which was however, not done.
A police party arrested Daler Mehndi's brother Shamsher near the Punjabi university campus at Patiala while he was on his way to receive an installment of money from Bakshish Singh, the SSP said.
He said that Daler Mehndi and others have been charged with promising to take people from here as part of his troupe and then leaving them in Canada and the USA.
The singer's brother Shamsher Mehndi was being interrogated while police parties had been sent to nab Daler Mehndi and others named in the FIR.
He said that presently it was not known as to how many persons had been taken so far or the amount of money involved in the alleged case saying investigations were on.
Daler Mehndi could not be contacted for his version with sources here stating that he was based in Delhi. Bureau Report
