Colombo, Mar 04: The head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission is flying to Kilinochchi later today to meet LTTE's political head S P Thamilselvan in an attempt to sort out differences within the Tamil rebel ranks.
SLMM spokeswoman Agnes Bragadottoir said that the visit followed
a crucial midnight meeting between Prime Minister Ranil
Wickremesinghe and Norwegian ambassador Hans Brattskar.
She said the meeting was called on the initiative of the Prime Minister in view of the crises involving regional rebel commander V Murlitharan, also known as Colonel Karuna, who has reportedly refused to send 1,000 armed cadres to the north and take orders from the rebel chief Velupillai Prabhakharan.
According to informed sources Col Karuna was peeved over the recent killing in the Batticaloa district and has decided to go it alone.
However, the pro-LTTE Tamilnet website denied there was a split in the LTTE organisation led by the elusive V Prabhakaran.
