New Delhi, June 20: The Centre today asserted that Liberhan Commission could not probe into the alleged incidents of assault on media personnel during the demolition of the disputed structure at Ayodhya.
It also termed the report of Press Council of India (PCI) on the incident as contrary to the law.

The Centre's counsel Lala Ram Gupta said the PCI constituted Sarkaria Commission's report on the assault on media could not be appreciated by this commission because the Press Council of India Act puts a bar on its(PCI) going into a matter pending before a court or inquiry commission.
"Thus, as per the settled law, the PCI report was in total nullity," he told the commission probing the demolition of disputed structure at Ayodhya on December 06, 1992.
Sarkaria commission in its findings had said that the attack on media personnel was pre-planned in Ayodhya. Bureau Report
