Surat, Aug 05: Two days after a building collapsed in the city killing 43 persons and injuring many more, the Surat Municipal Corporation has decided to demolish atleast four other dilapidated buildings in the same area.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who visited the
collapse site yesterday, directed "doing away" with buildings
in poor shape and instructed the officials to demolish all
weak buildings in the area, Surat Municipal Corporation sources said here today.
"Several other premises would also be sealed after a
survey to be conducted soon and officials would be divided
into teams for this", a Surat Municipal Corporation official told.
Meanwhile, three Surat Municipal Corporation officials, including two junior engineers, of Varachcha civic zone, where the building collapsed, have been suspended for "negligence" of duty, he said. A 12-member committee has also been formed to register recovered valuables and domestic items from the collapse site even as officials recovered a purse, 16 bags and Rs 9,016 cash, he added.
