New Delhi, May 03: Dust haze engulfed most parts of northern states and a high velocity storm hit Rajasthan today disrupting normal life and vehicular traffic but bringing some
respite from the soaring heat.
Vehicles moved at snail's pace due to poor visibility
caused by the dust haze while pedestrians had a tough time
with dusty air swirling round the streets.
In Rajasthan, high velocity winds blew in the western desert region in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts shifting huge sand dunes.
Met office attributed the dust haze to western disturbances over Jammu and Kashmir and the dry winds coming in from Rajasthan.
The haze was likely to remain throughout the day and clear up only tomorrow, deputy director general of the Indian Meterological department, H R Hathwar told here.
He said there were chances of rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh and a drop in temperature in the entire northern area.
The bad weather forced Congress president Sonia Gandhi to cancel her visit to Jammu as her chopper could not take off from here due to poor visibility.
In the national capital the maximum temperature which was recorded at 41 degree Celsius yesterday, dropped to 37.
In Rajasthan mercury dropped by four degrees at most places with the maximum temperature ranging between 39 to 43 degree Celsius. Bureau Report
