Patna, June 10: Four persons were killed in a foiled bid to loot a bank at Bihta, 25 km from here, today, a top police official said. Five motorcycle-borne robbers barged into a Canara Bank branch at Bihta this morning hours in a bid to loot the bank, and gunned down the guard when he tried to resist, DIG of police, Patna Range, Ravindra Kumar said.

When the other bank employees raised alarm, the robbers fled on their two wheelers.
However, they were chased by Bihta and Naubatpur police, who shot dead three of the miscreants at Kurtha village in Naubatpur block of rural Patna, the DIG said.

The remaining two were arrested, he said.

The robbers are members of the notorious Lala Shankar gang which operates in rural Patna and adjoining districts of Bhojpur and Buxar and is involved in many cases of bank robberies, he added.
