Wagah (Punjab), Oct 26: In a departure from the menacing gestures they make at each other at sundown, Border Security Force personnel presented a basket of sweets and fruits to their counterparts Pakistani Rangers at the international border here to mark Deepawali. The para-military force's Deputy Inspector General Hemant Prohit presented a 'tokra' (basket) containing popular traditional sweets like halwa, barfi, gulab jaman and patissa wrapped in a colourful pack to the Pakistani Rangers, BSF 19th battalion Commandant D K Sharma said. Commander of the Pakistani Rangers Ishfaq accepted the sweets.Indian and pakistani troops shook hands with each other and exchanged pleasantries. BSF sources said such events helped in building bonds of friendship and goodwill between the two sides. It was also a rare sight for the villagers in the border areas who hoped it would contribute towards establishing tranquility and normalcy along the border between the two countries.
