Jammu, June 08: National Mazdoor Conference today urged Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to immediately constitute the 6th Pay Commission headed by an eminent economist to evolve a national pay policy throughout the country.
"Such a step will neutralise the cascading effect of increasing inflation and price hike of essentials and will help fixation of structure of salaries of central and state employees leaving no room for anomaly between them," NMC president Subhash Shastri told a rally of NMC workers here.
He said Central Pay Commission recommendations should be made applicable as well so that the entire country is brought under a similar pay structure.
Installment of dearness allowance should be released for state government employees whenever such a relief is sanctioned by the Centre for its employees, he said adding special funds should also be provided by the Centre to the states to implement pay commission recommendation and release of DA installments.
The NMC chief also urged the Prime Minister and the Planning Commission to sanction Rs 500 crore as special financial assistance to Jammu and Kashmir for its developmental needs.
Resolutions calling for grant of disturbed area allowance to state government employees and release of cost of living allowance installments in favour of public sector employees with pensionary benefits were adopted at the rally.
