London, Aug 17: Indian classical artistes will perform at the London Mela, a colourful celebration of Asian culture, on August 17 as part of the 'friendship agreement' between Delhi and London.

Ken Livingston, Mayor of London, said the Mela would soon become one of the capital's major summer attractions.
"The London Mela has enormous potential to become firmly established as one of the most exciting events in the capital's cultural calendar.
"For the first time, there will be a London-wide Mela, building on the success of the many local melas in different parts of the city," Livingston said. "That Pandit Channu Lal Mishra and Shri Prahlad Singh Tipania will be performing at the Mela recognises the significance of London's friendship agreement with Delhi (signed last year). Their performance will add to what will be a memorable Mela," he said.

Delhi's Secretary of Art and Culture, Nita Bali, who will accompany the performers to London will also have a programme of visits to arts and cultural organisations in London to establish links between them and the Delhi Department of Art and Culture and arts and cultural organisations in Delhi.
