Kochi, Dec 12: The Congress high command would soon come out with a decision to resolve the tangle in the Kerala Pradesh Congress which would help maintain discipline in the faction-ridden party in the state, United Democratic Front (UDF) convener Oommen Chandy said today. He also maintained that there was no need for a leadership change as demanded by the Karunakaran faction as Chief Minister A K Antony had the support of two-thirds in the assembly.

Not only the Congress workers but the people were also watching the faction feud that was going on in the party and it is clear that without discipline the party cannot move forward, he told reporters.

No action had been taken so far against indiscipline in the party which had crossed the limit, only with the intention that there should be no split in the party, he said. The problem in the Congress which is leading the front had affected the performance of the government, but the government had not come to a standstill, he said.

To a query on the demand made by Kerala Congress (Mani), a constituent of the UDF, for the removal of Kerala Congress led by T M Jacob, who is the state irrigation minister and Kerala Congress led by R Balakrishna Pillai, state transport minister, from the front, he said 'I have seen the report in the paper'. In a democratic set up every party had freedom to make comments.

To another query, he said if the issues were raised at an appropriate forum, it would be discussed at the meeting of the UDF liaison committee. Bureau Report
