Kolkata, Dec 18: Fair price shops all over the country are observing a token strike today to press certain demands including revamp of the Public Distribution System (PDS). General secretary of All India Fair Price Shop Dealers' Federation Biswambhar Basu said in a statement that the demands made to the government included implementation of universal rationing system at uniform rates as recommended by the high-powered panel on long-term grain policy, reduction in central issue prices for above poverty level (APL) and allowing fair shop dealers to lift directly from FCI. He said of their demands were not met by the government, then the agitational programme will be intensified. Bureau Report
