Ranchi, Nov 26: Jharkhand Police have advised its personnels to adopt new strategies to deal with naxalites saying the group had of late changed their tactics by increasingly using landmines instead of guns. "It takes just 30 minutes to plant a landmine... The subordinate personnel have been sensitised about the threat perception to their lives arising out of landmine blast. They have also been asked to anticipate such dangers and avoid easy identification", Inspector General of Police (Zonal) Rajeev Kumar told a news agency The ultras, he said "have switched over to landmine blasts as encounters had proved disastrous," he added. The caution to the police subordinates follows two landmine blasts in five weeks in which 14 policemen were killed.

Asked whether the landmine blasts had hit the morale of the police, Kumar claimed "it is just the reverse. They (naxals) are a frustrated lot as constant and sudden raids are keeping them on the run." The IG, however, admitted the arrest of hardcore naxals had become increasingly difficult as they hardly stay in a place for two hours.

Commenting on media reports that at least 12 police officers the 14 naxal-affected districts were on the hit list of the ultras, he said "the police are not afraid of such threats. We will corner and finish them off."

Kumar , whose anti-naxal play -- 'phir ek nai subha hogi'- has been staged in almost all the naxal-infested places in the state and outside, said "the threat to my life will not stop me from staging the play even in naxalite stronghold areas".
