Jammu, Aug 15: Militants made an abortive attempt to target an Army camp in Kathua district today which was foiled by alert security guards who fired back forcing the Ultras to flee, police sources said.
Two heavily armed unidentified militants appeared from a hillock before the gate of Janglote Army picket this afternoon and started firing on the guards, the sources said.
However, the guards immediately took positions and replied back forcing the militants to escape towards the forest area, the sources said.
Later, the troops launched a major combing and search operation in the area to track down the militants, they said.
Militants also fired at and injured state horticulture department employee Abdul Rasheed who was returning home after attending an Independence day function in Doda district, the sources said adding he was hospitalised.
