Opportunity to establish peace in J-K: Sayeed
Jammu, July 11: Asserting that his government`s policies have been endorsed by major national political parties, J-K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said the state had a historic opportunity to establish peace and everybody must contribute towards it.

"The government's focus is on the people because they have the capacity to turn around the situation and usher in the much needed phase of peace and tranquility," Sayeed said addressing public meetings at Hiranagar and Udhampur towns in Jammu division.
The chief minister said his government had succeeded in creating goodwill among the people of the state through the healing touch policy. Referring to the problems of the people living in border areas, the chief minister said the Centre had approved a scheme for construction of permanent shelters at safer places for the families who had to frequently flee their residences due to heavy cross-border firing.
The chief minister said a new health policy is currently under formulation. Government would take steps to disallow government doctors from undertaking private practice. He said the government is also contemplating to engage doctors on contract basis.
Referring to the recently launched health insurance cover scheme for government employees, Sayeed said it would be extended for people living below poverty line, widows, senior citizens and journalists.
Describing it as a revolutionary step to provide dependable health cover to employees, Sayeed said half of the annual premium will be paid by the government.
He said government has decided to employ three teachers in every primary schools, which would create nearly 11000 posts for teachers.
He said about five thousand jobs for teachers have been created in the last 6-7 months with the opening of schools under 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan'.
In order to empower the panchayats in the state, the chief minister said that the chairman of the block samitis would be taken as member of the district development board while a representative of the panchayat would have the coveted position of deputy chairman of the board. Bureau Report
