New Delhi, Oct 13: Tata Tea expects its tea plantation production to increase this year from about 55 million kg in 2002, due to good monsoon, a top company official said today. Tata Tea Deputy Managing Director Percy Siganporia told reporters here the total domestic tea production was expected to increase from 826 million kg in 2002 to 870-875 million kg this year.
Of this, north India was expected to account for 670 million kg with the remainder coming from south India, he said but declined to specify the expected tea production of Tata Tea this year.
"There will be an increase this year as there was drought in the preceding year which affected production," Siganporia said at the sidelines of the launch of the new 'Tata Tea Gold' here.
The premium packaged tea has a blend of 85 per cent CTC and 15 per cent long leaf tea has been introduced.
Tata Tea was now considering introducing flavoured tea and ice-tea but has not drawn up any specific time frame for the launch of these two products, he said.
Vice President-Marketing Vivek Mathur said the 'Tata Tea' brand has been recording increasing sales ever since its relaunch last year and posted double digit growth rates in a declining packaged tea market.
He said the launch of new products like 'Tata Tea Gold' would increase sales of the company, but did not give details.
