Kolkata, Apr 19: A city court today remanded to jail custody Anand Margi Acharya Tadbhavan and Avadhoot alias Lal Chand Parihara till April 30, rejecting his bail prayer, in connection with the Purulia armsdrop case. The 9th Metropolitan Magistrate, however, rejected the plea of CBI for 12 day police custody of the accused.

Senior public prosecutor, CBI, B N Kapri prayed for his custody for interrogation submitting that the accused has been charged with serious offences under Section 121/121a (sedition, waging war against the state besides the arms act).

The central investigating agency also wanted to interrogate him for recovery of some arms which had not been found in Purulia, he stated.
Arms and ammunition had been dropped from an aircraft on the night of December 17, 1995, in West Bengal's Purulia district near the Ananda Marg's Ashram.

The accused was produced in the Metropolitan Magistrate's court pursuant to a Delhi court's granting a CBI transit remand on April 16.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Delhi, Ravinder Dudeja, had directed that the accused be produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Kolkata on April 18.

The accused, who is a resident of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested from the posh Chankyapuri area in New Delhi on April 15.
