Durban, July 09: US President George W Bush arrived late last night in Pretoria on a two-day official visit to South Africa amidst protests from anti-war groups.
Air Force One landed at the Pretoria military base just before 11:00 pm yesterday (0230 IST, today).
The US President is scheduled to hold talks with South African President Thabo Mbeki today. Bush's entourage includes wife Laura, Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Walter Kansteiner.
Apart from exchanging views on the current situation in Zimbabwe, the two leaders would also discuss issues of terrorism and trade.
Despite tight security, anti-war protestors held demonstrations shouting slogans terming bush as a "blood-thirsty butcher". The anti-war coalition plans to hold protest demonstrations in Pretoria, Cape Town and other parts of the country when Bush meets Mbeki.
Many South Africans have lambasted Bush for invading Iraq and called for his arrest as a "war criminal".
After meeting Mbeki, Bush, on a five nation African tour, leaves for Bostwana and then visit Uganda and Nigeria.
