Allahabad, Apr 03: Senior Congress leader Buta Singh today expressed dissatisfaction over the progress on the Ganga action plan and said that strict action should be initiated against officials responsible for derailing the project to rid the river of pollution and filth launched in 1987.
Singh, who heads a 15-member parliamentary committee to review the progress in the project here, told reporters that the government should consider restructuring the gap and fix accountability on officers as also set time frames.
The Congress MP, who inspected the quality of the water of the river at Alopibagh, Mori Gate and Sangam area, rapped the gap officials as the worst performers as far as the upkeep of the river was concerned.
He also held a meeting with the officials of the Allahabad Nagar Nigam, Jal Sansthan and Jal Nigam and issued necessary instructions for taking adequate measures for maintaining cleanliness of the river.
The Congress leader also announced setting up of a sewage treatment plan and an electric crematorium on the banks of the river as a proactive measure to ensure cleanliness of the river.
