Islamabad, July 18: International chemical
inspectors recently conducted their second industrial
inspection in Pakistan but the country kept the visit a
secret, a media report said today.
The inspectors representing the Hague-based
Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
inspected Nobel Wah (private) limited last month, 'The News'
daily quoting sources said today.
However, the foreign office is believed to have kept
the visit covert to avoid unnecessary media speculation, the
daily said.
It said that the foreign office was of the opinion
that the OPCW inspectors in April got unnecessary media hype
and created needless alarm. On April 29, a three-member OPCW
team inspected the Fauji Jordan fertilizer in Karachi.
The inspectors gave a clearance report to the unit they visited now and in April, the report said.
Pakistan is a signatory to the UN's Chemical Weapon Convention (CWC) Treaty, which bounds member countries to destroy their chemical weapons and open their sites for inspection of the US inspectors to ensure they are not producing chemical weapons.
