Aligarh, Sept 15: Former Chief Justice of India, A M Ahmadi has been appointed the Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). A formal decision to this effect was taken at a special meeting of the AMU court which ended around midnight last. A salient feature of Ahmadi's appointment was the unanimity of the AMU court on the issue as normally its members decide on appointments through a secret ballot. The court also unanmiously decided to appoint the Bangalore-based educationist, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad Khan as the University's pro-chancellor.

Ibne said Khan, the erstwhile Nawab of Chattari has been appointed as the university's honorary treasurer.


The AMU court also unananimously appointed six external members to the university's executive council. Those appointed are former foreign secretary, Salman Haider, former Rajya Sabha member, Waseem Ahmad, Saleem Iqbal Sherwani, MP, professor emeritus and noted cardiologist, Manzoor Hasan, E Ahmad, MP and agricultural scientist, Dr. S A H Abidi.
