Jagjit Singh Chohan, who spent decades in exile espousing the cause of so-called Khalistan before returning to India recently, on Friday called for changing of the Indian Constitution with a view to providing for a new federal structure similar to that of the United States.
Addressing reporters, Chohan fended off a series of questions on whether he had now given up the dream of a Khalistan outside the Indian union by advancing a vague concept of an ideal social structure within the Constitution which has become outdated by now.
Asked if he regarded himself an Indian, Chohan, who came back on June 27 after spending 22 years overseas, said that I have a home here. My hospital is here and I am practising here.

“It is not politics. It is corruption. You spend crores of rupees to buy votes. I am not interested in this kind of politics,” Chohan said when asked if he would contest forthcoming Punjab assembly polls.
