Rs 1,850 crore environment development project in W Bengal
Kolkata May 27: The West Bengal government has taken up a Rs 1,850 crore project in the metropolis in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, envisaging environment development in 40 wards spread over six boroughs.

development in 40 wards spread over six boroughs.
The seven-year project includes slum development in the
Cossipur, Jadavpur, Garden Reach and Behala area, besides
improvement of sewerage and drainage systems in six wards of
the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, urban development minister
Ashok Bhattacharya told newsmen here.
Management of solid waste and water bodies, besides dredging of canals and construction of 24 concrete bridges over the canals would also be part of the project, he said.
Pointing out that 3,186 families would have to be shifted for the project, he said that they would be rehabilitated in keeping with the ADB conditions. Altogether 10 acre of land had been acquired for the purpose.
