Newcastle, England, Sept 24: Former England captain Alan Shearer has signed a new one-year deal with Newcastle.
Sir Bobby Robson's side have had a disappointing start to the season - Newcastle failed to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League and are 19th in the English Premiership without a win in five matches.
"I am delighted it is signed for another year after this one and I am looking forward to getting the season back on track," the 33-year-old Newcastle skipper told the Sun.
Dutch side Nac Breda visit St James' Park for today's Uefa Cup first-round clash, and Shearer believes Saturday's goalless draw with Bolton was an encouraging sign.

"We may not be back to our flowing football just yet but we were certainly better at the weekend than in the most recent games at home against Partizan Belgrade and Birmingham," he said.

"Everyone knows this is my club. They therefore will know what it means to me and the rest of the lads to get things rolling again. It is a huge game - a huge week for us."
