Lucknow, July 18: Several parts of Uttar Pradesh including Agra, Jhansi and Chitrakoot division are reeling under acute drought like conditions and the situation is likely to worsen if the monsoon continues to elude the state for another week, official reports said.
Agra, Aligarh, Etah, ,Mainpuri, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun and Rampur districts have been the worst-hit with over 50 per cent agriculture being adversely affected.
The drought-like conditions prevailing in the state are also likely to figure in the cabinet meeting tomorrow.
State revenue minister Ravi Gautam said reports from the 70 districts of the state indicated a grim situation and added the state had sufficient funds to launch relief operation if necessary.

The weather office said monsoon had become active in the state and rainfall was likely in the next 24 hours.

Several political parties have demanded deferment of revenue realisation from the farmers in view of the prevailing condition. Chief Minister Mayawati has instructed departments concerned to initiate steps to deal with the situation.
