London, Feb 18: Sauber Petronas will claim an F1 first in Bahrain on Thursday when Swiss test driver Neel Jani powers their car along the Manama seafront in a demonstration run.
Organisers of the April 4 Bahrain Grand Prix said in a statement on Friday that it would be the first time a modern F1 car had been driven at speed in the Middle East.
Bahrain makes its F1 debut as the first race in the Middle East and third round of the season, which starts in Australia on March 7.
It will not be the first in the Arab world, however, since the Moroccan city of Casablanca hosted a grand prix in 1958 when Britain's Stirling Moss was the winner.
Jani, 20, will drive last year's C22 at speeds of up to 300kph down the King Faisal Highway on the Bahrain capital's seafront as part of a show to give locals a first taste of the sights and sounds of F1.
