Shillong, Apr 13: Congress in Meghalaya today attacked Purno A Sangma for raking up party president Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin issue even though the latter could not come to attend an election rally in Tura parliamentary constituency. Sonia, who was scheduled to address the rally failed to reach due to 'bad weather'.
The party, however, went ahead with the scheduled meeting at Tura with the Chief Minister D D Lapang making a scathing attack on Purno A Sangma for his raking up Sonia’s foreign origin issue.

"It was this Purno Sangma who a few years ago went to Sonia’s residence to urge her to take the congress mantle,” Lapang said addressing the rally.

The Chief Minister, also the chairman of North East Congress Coordination Committee, criticised Sangma for his alleged attempt to disrupt the peace process between the outlawed Achik National Volunteers Council and Garo Baptist convention church leaders.
Meghalaya Congress unit president S C Marak, party candidate for Tura seat Mukul Sangma also addressed the rally.
