In a significant move, Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi on Saturday sent a written proposal for solving the Ayodhya tangle to the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board ahead of its crucial executive committee meeting in New Delhi on Sunday.
"We have received this evening a written proposal from the seer urging us to allow the Ram Janambhumi Trust to construct the temple on the undisputed land in lieu of the their agreeing to abide by the court verdict on the disputed site," board spokesman S Q R Illyas said.
He said, under the proposal, the VHP would build a boundary wall around the disputed site where the Babri mosque stood before its demolition, prior to beginning the temple construction work.
Illyas, however, said the board has not yet received a copy of the written undertaking given by the Ram Janambhumi Nyas to the government to abide by the court verdict on the disputed site and the VHP's temple construction plan which were sought by it during the meeting with the Kanchi seer.
Meanwhile, the board's Committee on Babri Masjid, the umbrella organisation of all outfits dealing with the dispute, including the Babri Masjid Action Committee and Babri Masjid Coordination Committee, met here earlier in on Saturday to finalise the agenda for Sunday's meeting which includes the Kanchi seer's proposal and the Gujarat killings, said Illyas, who is also the convener of the panel.
Over 70 members, besides special invitees, would be attending the day-long meeting on Sunday, he said. Bureau Report
