Drishyam movie review: You only see what your eyes want to see!
If a movie is not promoted extensively, it doesn't make the film any less good. You will be utterly surprised with Nishikant Kamat's 'Drishyam'. The movie is a remake of the original Malayalam hit which goes by the same name. If its original had a superstar actor Mohanlal in the lead, then Kamat has made the right choice by casting Ajay Devgn in the Hindi remake.
Ajay Devgn plays Vijay Salgaonkar—a common man, who is a cable operator in the colourful city of Goa. He has a loving family comprising his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran), two daughters Anju (Ishita Dutta) and Anu (younger one). They live a happy and prosperous middle-class family life until an unnerving incident changes the way they once lived. No, I am not going to kill the suspense this soon!
Vijay is a good samaritan, who tries everything possible at hand to help his family sail through difficult times. This fourth standard fail cable operator has one more obsession, and that is watching cinema. Yes, his love for movies plays a vital role in this thriller.
Story by Jeethu Joseph (who directed the original) is par excellence. You will doubt what you saw, after watching this edgy drama. The screenplay is brilliant as the movie stands bit-by-bit true to its title. Indeed, visuals turn out to be deceptive in 'Drishyam'.
To watch class actress Tabu in the role of IG Meera Deshmukh is a delight, as none could have presented the character with so much strength as she does. Her mere presence in that uniform is enough to send jitters down your spine. The towering personality of hers is shown to be that of a tough taskmaster. Meera is a mother too, and that perhaps is her only weakness (not revealing more).
There is no unnecessary bombardment of songs in the movie, which is a delight. Music by Vishal Bhardwaj is subtle and in tune with the feel of the thriller. Background score by Sameer Phatarpekar is great in building the momentum. Avinash Arun's cinematic work plays a significant role in creating a visual delight for the viewers in this thriller.
You possibly should not miss this film, because one it has those intense eyes of Ajay Devgn along with realistic performance by Tabu. And if that's not enough, then you have another reason - content surely is the king.
