Los Angeles: Filmmaker James Wan is returning to 'The Conjuring' to direct its second instalment.

According to Variety, the director has signed a first-look deal with New Line.


The release date of the movie - which originally starred Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson - was originally set for October 2015 but was recently pushed back to 2016.


'The Conjuring' proved a hit in 2013, raking in $318 million worldwide. Prequel 'Annabelle' was released earlier this month, concerning the origins of the creepy doll featured in the original film.


'The Conjuring 2' is written by Carey and Chad Hayes.
