Los Angeles: Filmmaker F Javier Gutierrez has confirmed the upcoming film "Rings" will be a sequel to the "The Ring" contrary to the reports that the movie was a prequel.

Gutierrez shared the news on Twitter, reported Aceshowbiz. "Hey peeps, #Rings is NOT a prequel, the story takes place 13 years after #TheRing," he tweeted.


Gutierrez also shared an update on the film's production stage via his Instagram.


"On the way to set #Rings #TheRing #movie #SamaraMorgan #Paramount #principalphotography #Atlanta," he captioned a picture that confirmed the start of the film's principal photography in Atlanta and that Samara would be present in the plot.


The confirmation was made hot on the heels of Alex Roe's casting as the horror feature's male lead.
